McCrea Black

McCrea Black

Hi, I'm McCrea, and I'm in the pure math concentration here at UT San Antonio, where I enjoy studying all kinds of math, but especially Logic and number theory. When I'm not doing math, you might see me going for jogs or playing chess.

Jake Borawski

Jake Borawski

My name is Jake Borawski and I am excited to be studying pure mathematics. I hope to go on to receive my Ph.D. in mathematics. I am a San Antonio native and am a big fan of the city! I have always loved puzzles and logic games, so my interest in math seems to have been inevitable. I am interested in dynamics and topology and look forward to doing research here at UT San Antonio.

Before arriving at UT San Antonio, I earned my bachelor's degree in Durango, Mexico, where I had discovered my passion for mathematics and the inherent creativity they imply. I fell in love with this science, especially with how artistic algebra and geometry feel, and therefore, I came here to deepen my knowledge in these areas and begin to collaborate in mathematical research.

Outside of the classroom I love watching Gilmore Girls and every movie available on streaming. I also like to explore the campus and the city, taking pictures to send to my sister, meeting new friends, and, to be honest, there's no day I'm not craving chilaquiles.

I graduated from Texas A&M University with my bachelor's degree in Mathematics. I served in the Army for six years as a Forward Observer in the Field Artillery branch. I currently work at Sotomayor HS where I am proud to serve as the Mathematics Department Coordinator. I am hoping to earn enough graduate math credits to officially teach dual credit math classes for my school district.

Gavin Cunningham

I like to program my own little pet projects, mostly for personal use. My interests include games: both board games and video games, because of the little puzzles that are inside, whether intentional or not. In that vein, my mathematical interests lie more with curiosity, learning what I can, when I can.

Elena Deleon

Elena Deleon

Hey, I'm Elena! I’m from San Antonio, TX and did my undergrad at Texas Woman's University. I really love math and am still figuring out which areas I want to focus on. In my free time, you'll usually find me crocheting or reading something spooky.

Garrett DeLong

I was raised in a not so well off household surrounded by negative influences here in SA. Mathematics educators changed my life and helped me in ways I never could have dreamed of. I am passionate about helping others regardless of background and current struggles, through teaching mathematics I find a way to make a difference. I hope to pursue a doctorate in Mathematics Education and make a career in mathematics research and teaching at the university level.

Kayla Livingston

Kayla Livingston

I am pursuing an M.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Pure Mathematics, focusing on the analysis track with a strong interest in calculus. I plan to apply my mathematical background to a career in data analytics. Outside of academia, I enjoy reading, especially YA dystopian fiction. I also love music. I play multiple instruments, including the guitar, bass guitar, and piano, and I sing.

Angelo Lomeli

Angelo Lomeli

I am a second-year master's student in pure mathematics with undergraduate degrees in mathematics and physics. My academic interests include coding theory, abstract algebra, and post-quantum cryptography. Drawing from my background in physics, I am also interested in the mathematical foundations of quantum information and computation.

Marissa Martinez

Marissa Martinez

My name is Marissa and I am a graduate student in the second year of my Master's program with a concentration in Math Education. I have been a research assistant for a year and am now teaching as well! I hope to get a Ph.D. in Math Education, and in the meantime, I enjoy reading and spending time with my dog, Loki. I am also enjoying learning how to play chess and crochet.

James McRae

I was born in Virginia and lived there for 9 years before moving to San Antonio, staying here until I moved to College Station to get my undergrad in Applied Mathematics. I'm currently employed by the U.S. Air Force, working as a data analyst for student pilot training around the U.S. I am very intrigued by math concepts like Cryptography and Probability. On the non-math related side, I love sports (Baseball, Football and Golf are what I watch the most). I love to play golf; I did it competitively in high school and play pretty much all the time during my free time. I also love doing trivia leagues. My family and I have a team that we try to do a trivia night once a week.

Jason Milligan

Jason Milligan

I have been a high school calculus teacher for ten years. I enjoy spending time with my family, collecting American literature and vintage clothing, and watching reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond. My studies of interest include harmonic analysis and differential equations.

Oscar Olberra

I am a Graduate student pursuing a career in the field of mathematical biology. I love to play the guitar and write music when time permits.

Kimberly Roe

I am a high school math teacher with a background in the United States Military and the semiconductor industry. My experiences in both the military and the classroom have shaped a deep appreciation for structure, problem solving, and lifelong learning. My academic interests include cryptography, topology, and a growing interest in quantum logic. Outside of mathematics, I enjoy spending time outdoors, running, hiking, and camping.

Kyana Ross

Kyana Ross

Hi, my name is Kyana, and I am a math major. I am interested in using mathematics to help in medicine and with healthcare such as finding how much something can affect whether someone gets a disease or how much it can increase the chances. On the other hand, I like to sew as a relaxing hobby. This would include bags, hats, and I am starting to get into creating cosplay.

Gabriella Valdez

Gabriella Valdez

My favorite math interest is the synchronization in systems and how the Kuramoto model has been modified to model neural networks. In my free time, I am usually doing my hobbies such as creating iconic things from video games with clay, or catching up with my friends and family.

Ruben Vallejo

Ruben Vallejo

Hello y'all! I love rollerskating, motorcycles and a good gallon of tea! I'm also passionate about number theory and game theory, and I enjoy working with my colleagues in the math department while continuing to learn about the world.

I am a former collegiate swimmer and current Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner. I am conducting research at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute in Dr. Ganusov's Mathematical Modeling Lab, where we focus on immunology, within-host dynamics, and infectious diseases. My mathematical interests center on all things data science and its applications across the sciences. While still early in my journey, I am eager to continue growing as a scientist in the graduate mathematics program.
