Engage with the Science Mentors
The Science Mentors (SMs) are dedicated to supporting COS transfers, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in building their science identity and staying connected with the College of Sciences. As fellow COS students, SMs share their experiences and serve as valuable resources.
What We Do
Science Mentors meet with their mentees at least three times per semester, with each meeting lasting up to 30 minutes. These meetings can be held in-person or virtually, focusing on:
- Academic success
- Career development
- Campus involvement
- Overall well-being
Four-Year Plan Guidance
- Regular Check-ins: Meeting with mentors three times per semester allows students to effectively track their progress and connect with valuable campus resources.
- Personalized Advice: Mentors provide personalized advice on balancing coursework, research opportunities, internships, and other commitments, helping students stay on track and make the most of their college experience.
Our Events
The COS SM team collaborates with campus resources and faculty to create and host events that promote academic success, career development, and overall well-being. Check out our upcoming events.
Unique Program Features
What makes our Science Mentoring program stand out:
- Peer Connection: Mentees and mentors share the same college experience, creating a supportive environment where students can relate to one another.
- Personal Insights: SMs are not tutors or advisors; instead, they offer personal insights and experiences from their own academic journeys.
- Science Identity Focus: The program emphasizes the development of a robust science identity, helping students integrate into the scientific community within the College of Sciences.
- Holistic Support: Beyond academics, SMs focus on the overall well-being and campus engagement of their mentees.
