Science Mentors (SMs) are student leaders who work for the COS SSC. They strive to help students discover their science identity by bringing awareness to resources on-campus and establishing a connection towards their major. Become a Science Mentor today!

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled at UTSA
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior at UTSA
  • Must be enrolled as a College of Sciences student
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Two semesters completed at UTSA
  • Clear a criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous on-campus work experience in a student helping role
  • Involvement in a College of Sciences student organization
  • Involvement in College of Sciences research

Approximately 45 mentees per Science Mentor; however, this may fluctuate given the number of students we serve.

We host a variety of events on topics such as professional development, career preparation, social/networking, wellness, and academics. The COS SSC also collaborates with campus resources, corporate partners, and student organizations as well for event offerings.

Science Mentors work a minimum of 15 hours and cannot exceed 19 hours per week.

Science Mentors make $13 an hour; Lead Science Mentors make $14 an hour.
