What is the HONEY Pathway?

The Honeybee Oriented NextGen Entrepreneurs and Youth (HONEY) Pathway at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is an organization that aims to advance the USDA’s NextGen Program by providing training and experiential learning to prepare underrepresented and minoritized (URM) students for the expansive array of diverse careers in the food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences (FANH).

This Tier One program addresses project types B (Experiential Learning) and C (Outreach and Engagement) through existing collaboration between UTSA (HSI, or a Hispanic Serving Institution) and St. Philips College's (HBCU, or a Historically Black College and University) Ciencia, Ingeniería, y Matemáticas Aliados (CIMA) program.

Through the extensive and comprehensive training of URM students in beekeeping, and pollinator research and entrepreneurship, UTSA is cultivating the next generation leaders of urban beekeeping.

At the HONEY Pathway, our mission is not only to prepare our students for future agricultural endeavors, but to also further our understanding of the healing properties of honey and to develop new ways to harness its potential.

Our team of researchers and students are all working together to advance our understanding of this amazing natural resource. We are committed to using the latest technology and research techniques to explore the many ways honey can be used to improve health and wellbeing.
