The EcoJEDI Scholar Program sought to bolster the recruitment, graduation, and career readiness in food and agriculture sciences through a city-wide collaboration of three Hispanic-Serving Institutions: The University of Texas at San Antonio, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Northeast Lakeview College.
The program increased science knowledge, skills, and literacy by building engagement through experiential learning, mentoring, and science communication. Science curricula were strengthened in an environment that promoted a communication-enriched curriculum.
This collaboration prepared students for FAS employment through:
- Field-based experiences
- Exposure to natural resources during nature immersion and experiential learning
- Culturally and regionally relevant communication practices, including counter-storytelling
