Hanan Yaacoub, Administrative Manager, Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology

Please tell us about yourself.
I have many years of experience working in various fields in various countries including my hometown of Sudan and the United Arab Emirates. I earned my Master's degree in Public Administration from UTSA in Spring 2018 and two days after walking the stage on graduation day, I went into delivery with my third child. Some of my colleagues didn't think I was going to make it because of all the waiting!

What did your journey to UTSA look like?
I have been working for UTSA since 2016, I joined as a program coordinator in the Biology Department, then Marketing Coordinator which was fun because I got to work on creating a lot of publications including a monthly department newsletter! Now I am an Administrative Manager in the new MMI department.

How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
My experience at UTSA has been diverse in that I played many roles! This past year has been a huge learning curve for me as the lead admin in the department.

What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
Working full time and earning my master's degree.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with my team and all the faculty in the department. Everyone is super nice and cooperative.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?
Taking my kids on an outing and later sharing a meal with them, then relaxing with a good book in the evening.
