Please tell us about yourself.
I grew up in the Midwest. I have been married for over 35 years to my best friend, who I met when I was in Junior High School. My spouse is retired Air Force; we have lived in San Antonio for almost 20 years. We have two amazing children, who have graduated college and are married. I love to create and design things. I am an avid reader who enjoys cooking and entertaining.
What did your journey to UTSA look like?
I started my journey 17 years ago, in 2007 with the Biology Department. Throughout my journey as I continued to grow in my administrative role, I have worked and gained experiences in the College of Education and Human Development at the Dean's level, UTSA Human Resources and the College of Business. My journey has always served the UTSA community of faculty staff and students.
How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
Each task we are assigned touches someone's life.
What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
Collaboration on many levels with many offices. Being a young and newly established department established in 2021, we are growing our resources and support and creating our branding with continued success. We have an amazing chair and fearless leader, Dr. Astrid Cardona, that supports us. It is our collaboration with other resources that makes our daily roles and responsibilities a success. We have amazing resources in the COS. My job is successful due to the collaboration, assistance and guidance from the COS Dean’s office, COS BSC Team 1, support from the Assistant Dean of Fiscal Administration, COS Grad Support and my sister department NDRB.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
My collaboration with the sister department NDRB. Janice Marshall and her staff are not just colleagues, we share a small office space. We share resources. Through this past year we have had a partnership and friendship and we have increased our purchasing bandwidth, strengthened our resources and supported the COS and UTSA mission. My job is very administrative heavy and at times just having that support and guidance is powerful to the day-to-day success. There are processes I am very knowledgeable in that helps NDRB; on the flip side, Janice has experiences and knowledge that compliment and strengthen the administrative support needed for this role.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
My ideal Saturday is quiet. I usually soak up time with my spouse and my two dogs, Samuel Jackson (border collie) and Ace Tobias (black pug). I enjoy designing and sewing quilts. I have made and designed over 200 quilts. Many were given to the NIC unit at local hospitals. I enjoy reading.
