(The ouroboros, regarded as a symbol of cyclic renewal or rebirth, has long occupied a special place in the alchemical tradition. Here, the image captures the nature of the dual catalytic cycles discussed by Tonzetich and co-workers. The authors find that both cobalt(I) and cobalt(II) can play a role in the hydrogenation of alkenes and alkynes catalyzed by pincer-type complexes. Moreover, the interplay of these two catalytic cycles leads to different product outcomes. Allusions to alchemical themes are further highlighted in the cover image through the use of the alchemical symbols for cobalt and "PNP.")
