The College of Sciences Student Success Center is looking for applicants for our student leader program

Science Mentors (SMs) and Program Assistants (PAs) are student leaders who work for the COS SSC. They strive to helps students discover their science identity by bringing awareness to resources on-campus and establishing a connection towards their major. Become a member of the team today!

Science Mentors share their experiences and serve as valuable resources for COS students. They meet with their mentees at least three times per semester, helping build their science identity and stay connected with the College of Sciences. See the COS SSC Science Mentors page to learn more.

Ways Science Mentors Can Be Useful for COS Students

  • Expand your network and meet with other COS students.
  • Share professional development opportunities.
  • Help grow your identity as a scientist.
  • Connect you with resources to promote academic success.

Program Assistants are responsible for developing and managing social media content for our Instagram page (@cos.success) and helping coordinate the Science Identity Series workshops. This role focuses on outreach and engagement within the College of Sciences community rather than direct student mentoring.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled at The University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior at The University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Must be enrolled as a College of Sciences student
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Two semesters completed at The University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Clear a criminal background check
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and managing social media content (photo, video, and digital storytelling)
  • Previous on-campus work experience in a student helping role
  • Involvement in a College of Sciences student organization
  • Involvement in College of Sciences research

We host a variety of events on topics such as professional development, career preparation, social/networking, wellness, and academics. The COS SSC also collaborates with campus resources, corporate partners, and student organizations as well for event offerings.

Student Staff work a minimum of 15 hours and cannot exceed 19 hours per week.

Student Staff make $14 an hour; Leads make $15 an hour.
