The EcoJEDI Scholar Program seeks to bolster the recruitment, graduation, and career readiness in food and agriculture sciences (FAS) through a city-wide collaboration of three Hispanic-Serving Institutions: The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), and Northeast Lakeview College (NLC).
The program increases science knowledge, skills, and literacy by building engagement through experiential learning, mentoring, and science communication. Science curricula are strengthened in an environment that promotes a communication-enriched curriculum.
This collaboration prepares students for FAS employment through:
- Field-based experiences
- Exposure to natural resources during nature immersion and experiential learning
- Culturally and regionally relevant communication practices, including counter-storytelling
