Lab Director & Primary Investigator
Dr. Wicha's research focuses on understanding how the brain processes language in real time using both behavioral and brain imaging techniques. The lab has three primary areas of research that encompass their work: 1) Neural time course of language comprehension, 2) Cognitive neuroscience of bilingual language and cognition, and 3) Interface between language and other cognitive processes (e.g., math).
Amandine Grenier, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Fellow
Amandine is a postdoctoral fellow who received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research uses event-related potentials (ERPs) to study the neurocognitive basis of successful multiplication processing in elementary school children. In the long-term, she hopes that her research will inform education and testing for all children, including children with math disabilities.

Antonio Allevato
Doctoral Student
Antonio, a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience, uses a mixed methods approach featuring electroencephalography/event related potentials (ERPs), behavior and cognitive assessment to investigate the effects of divided attention and focused attention meditation on language comprehension. The outcome of this research will help to determine how neurodiverse populations evaluate and integrate linguistic information and communicate with their communities.

Stefan Padron
Post-Baccalaureate Research Assistant
Stefan recently graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.S. in Biology (Neurobiology concentration) and a B.A. in Psychology. He is currently pursuing a post-baccalaureate in Neuroscience, Developmental, and Regenerative Biology (NDRB) with concentrations in behavioral and molecular neuroscience. Stefan aspires to attend medical school and become an emergency medicine physician with fellowship training in neurocritical care and stroke neurology. He is also passionate about conducting clinical research, particularly focusing on neurodegenerative diseases and language pathology.

Samantha Holt
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Samantha is an undergraduate student at The University of Texas at San Antonio pursuing a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Spanish. She is a member of the Honors College, APPEX Program, and Brainwave Society. She has research interests in language and behavior and hopes to earn her MD/PhD to pursue both medicine and neuroscience research.

Michael Vasko
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Michael is a graduating senior at The University of Texas at San Antonio majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Neuroscience. He has been admitted, through the VIP program, into The University of Texas at San Antonio Kinesiology Motor Behavior Master's program and will pursue a PhD in cognitive neuroscience afterwards. His research interests include the areas of cognition, prediction, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, as well as the application of experimental techniques such as electroencephalography, event-related potentials, and eye tracking.
