Nicole Wicha

Nicole Wicha, Ph.D.

Lab Director

Dr. Wicha's research focuses on understanding how the brain processes language in real time using both behavioral and brain imaging techniques. The lab has three primary areas of research that encompass their work: 1) Neural time course of language comprehension, 2) Cognitive neuroscience of bilingual language and cognition, and 3) Interface between language and other cognitive processes (e.g., math).

Rocío Norman

Rocío Norman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Visiting Researcher

Dr. Norman is an Assistant Professor at UT Health San Antonio and a visiting researcher at UTSA. Her program of research aims to understand the neural correlates to language deficits in individuals with mild traumatic brain injury.

Amandine Grenier

Amandine Grenier, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Amandine is a postdoctoral fellow who received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UTSA. Her research uses event-related potentials (ERPs) to study the neurocognitive basis of successful multiplication processing in elementary school children. In the long-term, she hopes that her research will inform education and testing for all children, including children with math disabilities.

Tara Flaugher

Tara Flaugher

Department of Defense SMART Scholar and Pat Tillman Scholar

Is the ability to understand language impacted after concussion? To address this question, Tara, a Neuroscience Ph.D. Candidate and Texas State University B.S. Biology graduate, uses a mixed methods approach featuring electroencephalography/event related potentials (ERPs) to investigate language comprehension in adults with and without a history of concussion. Specifically, her research focuses on understanding how individuals use context and associated words when reading sentences. After graduation, Tara will continue leverage her knowledge of the EEG/ERP technique and neuropsychological assessments to understand human performance, as a cognitive neuroscientist at the Naval Information Warfare Center in San Diego, California.

Antonio Allevato

Antonio Allevato

Antonio received his B.S. with a concentration in neurobiology from UTSA. He is currently a Neuroscience Ph.D. candidate. Antonio’s research focuses on using electroencephalography to investigate the level of context used in dynamic listening comprehension under ideal and taxed conditions. The outcome of this research will help to determine how neurodiverse populations evaluate and integrate linguistic information and communicate with their communities.
