Welcome to the Bassetto Lab!

Ion channels are fundamental to cellular homeostasis and physiological signaling, including action potential propagation, cardiac rhythm, and sensory perception.

The main goal of the lab is to understand the molecular mechanisms of ion channel function and their impact on physiological processes. Particularly, we are interested in the response of ion channels to temperature, membrane tension, and voltage aiming to identify key protein components that function as sensors for these and other physical stimuli and their consequence to cellular homeostasis.
