Faculty Profile

Current Lab Members

placeholder

Mei Lani Cabico-May

Ph.D. Student

Lani is interested in the science and management of water quality in developing areas in and around San Antonio. She is working on several projects investigating water quality conditions of runoff from urban areas and effectiveness of low-impact design (LID) methods for treating runoff. Her work will help in guiding management to minimize impacts of urban development on downstream water quality, including the Edwards Aquifer.

Namrata Giri

Namrata Giri

Ph.D. Student

Namrata's research focus is on assessing variability in food resources for fish seasonally and between habitats. Currently, she is working on the seasonal dynamics of hydrology, water quality and food resource assessment in Cibolo Creek, which recharges the Trinity and Edwards aquifer.

Hector Escobar

Hector Escobar

M.S. Student

Hector started the M.S. program in spring 2020 and is developing a project in coordination with water quality sampling of stormwater in the Leon Creek watershed.

Yates Pfeiffer

M.S. Student

Yates is currently developing a project related to water quality sampling on Cibolo Creek.

Luke Salazar

Luke Salazar

M.S. Student

Luke is an Environmental Science graduate student at UTSA. His research will focus on identifying algal communities and composition in the Leon Creek, and determining what environmental factors play a role in any changes within. He is currently employed as a Safety Specialist I for UTSA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.

Felipe Villanueva

Felipe Villanueva

M.S. Student

Felipe entered UTSA's Environmental Science M.S. program in the spring of 2019. His current research interests are the synergistic effects of climate change and urbanization on riparian vegetation. Before UTSA, Felipe completed a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in marine and coastal resources from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. His hobbies include cooking, video games, and training for Spartan races.

Eugene Von Bon

Eugene Von Bon

M.S. Student

Eugene is in the second year of UTSA's Environmental Science M.S. degree program. His research interests include restoration ecology, environmental remediation, and urban ecology. He is currently working with the storm water management program on the Main Campus and developing a thesis project on low impact design. Eugene is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as a dental assistant and retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He completed his B.S. in Environmental Science at UTSA in May 2018 with a focus on conservation and restoration ecology.

Adebayo Adeyeye

Adebayo Adeyeye

Research Technician

Adebayo completed his M.S. degree in the lab investigating the concentrations and movement of estrogen compounds in Cibolo Creek, a perennial stream in the Texas Hill Country that receives treated wastewater effluent. His M.S. thesis has implications for water quality downstream and in the Edwards Aquifer, because Cibolo Creek flows through the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. Adebayo is currently helping sample stormwater quality throughout the Leon Creek watershed.

Cheyenne Love

Cheyenne Love

M.S. Student

Cheyenne completed her M.S. degree in 2019, with a project investigating the effects of Axis deer on standing water quality in the Texas Hill Country. Cheyenne is now a middle-school science teacher in the San Antonio area.
