Mei Lani Cabico-May
Ph.D. Student
Lani is interested in the science and management of water quality in developing areas in and around San Antonio. She is working on several projects investigating water quality conditions of runoff from urban areas and effectiveness of low-impact design (LID) methods for treating runoff. Her work will help in guiding management to minimize impacts of urban development on downstream water quality, including the Edwards Aquifer.
Yasmine Carcamo Diaz
M.S. Student
Yasmine started in the lab in fall 2024. She is developing a project investigating the effects of bioretention basins on temperature in stormwater runoff.
Justin Casteel
M.S. Student
Justin started in the lab in fall 2024. He is developing a project investigating drivers of habitat response to flooding and whether habitat changes are synchronous across adjacent watersheds.
Marisa Gonzalez
M.S. Student
Marisa started in the lab in fall 2024. She is interested in using bioassessment to understand land use impacts on intermittent and perennial streams in and around San Antonio.
Sarah McMahon
M.S. Student
Sarah started in the lab in fall 2024. She is developing a project investigating the relative contribution of streams to downstream pollutant loading across a gradient of urban development.
Cidney Williams
M.S. Student
Cidney started in the lab in spring 2024. She is developing a project investigating impacts of urban development on macroinvertebrate communities in ephemeral and perennial streams in and around San Antonio.
Namrata Giri
Namrata completed her Ph.D. in summer 2023, investigating variability in food resources for fish seasonally and between habitats. She also conducted a study of the impacts of turbidity on Devils River minnow.
Adebayo Adeyeye
Adebayo completed his M.S. degree in the lab investigating the concentrations and movement of estrogen compounds in Cibolo Creek, a perennial stream in the Texas Hill Country that receives treated wastewater effluent. Adebayo is currently a Ph.D. student at UTSA.
Jesse Guajardo
Jesse completed his thesis in spring 2024, investigating impacts of wastewater treatment effluent on reproductive physiology of fish in Cibolo Creek. The work will help in understanding whether treated wastewater poses a risk to aquatic biota in streams in the region. Jesse is employed with the San Antonio Water Systems.
Cheyenne Love
Cheyenne completed her M.S. degree in 2019, with a project investigating the effects of Axis deer on standing water quality in the Texas Hill Country. Cheyenne is a project manager with the Wyoming Water Development Office.
Felipe Villanueva
Felipe completed his thesis in fall 2023, investigating the synergistic effects of climate change and urbanization on riparian vegetation. Felipe now works at UTSA.
Eugene Von Bon
Eugene completed his M.S. degree working with the storm water management program on the Main UTSA Campus. He now works as an environmental consultant.
