Cheryl Negrete, Business Service Center Specialist III, COS Business Service Center

Please tell us about yourself
I was born in San Antonio, but was raised in Japan and Hawaii. I am happiest when I'm with family and friends.

What did your journey to UTSA look like?
I've been at UTSA for 16 years. I started working for UTSA in the Center for Research and Training in the Sciences. I then worked for Dr. Janis Bush (who taught everything I know from writing grants to the research done on several of the grants) in what is now known as the Biology, Health and the Environment for 13 years and my final destination is now here at the COS Business Service Center. In the BSC, I am grateful to Mike Findeisen who taught me about patience.

How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
Very important. Making sure that people and invoices are paid.

What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
I helped start the College of Sciences Research Conference in 2009. Our first year we had 75 participants. In our final year (2019) we had over 1,500 participants with 310 poster presentations and 65 talks. In 2012 I also helped start and continue to help with the Vaccine Development of San Antonio Conference. This year I was honored by receiving the "Outstanding Customer Service Award."

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The people that I work with.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?
Taking day trips to different cities unless it's football season. Then it's Roadrunners at the Alamodome and Texas Tech time!
