Araceli Trejo, Program Manager–Undergraduate Programs, Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology
What did your journey to UTSA look like?
I was a student worker while getting my undergraduate degree, and since then, I've worked in higher education for almost 11 years. I eventually moved to San Antonio to be closer to family. I have two other relatives who work at UTSA, so I guess you can say we have a passion for education and working with college students in the family! Since starting at UTSA it's been great learning about the traditions, academics and students on campus.
How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
I help with undergraduate recruitment, retention and administrative needs.
What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
It was definitely during the Graduation Drive Thru with the College of Sciences. I got to stand and celebrate with other faculty and staff in the college as graduates drove by with their family and friends. I was so proud of the students, what they accomplished and all they had ahead of them. It was incredibly moving to see the excitement in the students' faces and in the loved ones who were supporting them.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What has been interesting is learning about all the projects, research and community outreach initiatives our faculty and staff are involved in. It's exciting to hear about all the opportunities available to our students to grow in their education and career, and the university's effort to promote science within the San Antonio community. I still remember all those who helped me when I was an undergraduate student, so I also enjoy helping the department make college a positive and impactful experience for students.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
I'm currently working on a Master's Degree in Family Studies, so I spend a lot of time on the weekend reading and working on assignments. When I have free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working on my yard and hanging out with my dog, Luna!
