Tempestt Pouncy, Senior Administrative Associate, College of Sciences Office of the Dean
Please tell us about yourself.
I'm originally from Corpus Christi but have lived in a few different places like New York (where I met my husband), Ohio, and Georgia. I have a background in Social Work and Psychology and love working in education. I am a proud mom of 4 boys, ranging from 9 months to 16 and spend most of my "spare" time corralling them.
What did your journey to UTSA look like?
I started with UTSA in 2016 as an Administrative Associate II in the Philosophy and Classics department, working with travel and organizing departmental events. At the height of COVID, August 2020, I was a part of the COLFA restructuring and was fortunate to obtain a position with the newly developed COLFA BSC, as a BSC Specialist. Having the opportunity to watch a department develop firsthand was a wonderful experience.
During my time as a BSC Specialist, I handled many of the fiscal processes and learned a few things about the financial side of operations here at UTSA. After a few years of back-office processing, I wanted to be back on the front lines working closely with staff and students. The majority of my BSC colleagues were previously COS employees and spoke highly of their experience with COS. When the opportunity arose to become a part of COS, I threw my hat in the ring and the rest, as they say, is history.
How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
Handling the logistics of the Dean's office so everything can run smoothly.
What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
Since I am still new to COS, watching the staff interact with one another at the Staff Appreciation Breakfast.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being a source of information for those learning how to navigate the UTSA infrastructure.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
Brunch with the family at Whiskey Cake in La Cantera, followed by an afternoon watching my oldest son play baseball with my husband while the younger children play. Family dinner, playtime with the baby, putting my toddlers to bed, and concluding the evening with an episode of The Office or Abbot Elementary while sitting on the couch sharing a bowl of popcorn with my husband.
