Lauren Hoffman, Program Manager for Undergraduate Studies, College of Sciences Office of the Dean
What did your journey to UTSA look like?
Well, I earned my Master's of Education in Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel in May 2013 from Kent State University in Ohio. That July, we packed up our apartment and the dog and moved to San Antonio. My first two positions were at Palo Alto College; in my role there as a career advisor I served on a consortium of university career centers, which connected me with Audrey Magnuson and the UTSA University Career Center.
In fall 2014, I officially joined UTSA as a Career Counselor! It was a year of challenge and professional growth, and ultimately led me to my current position as the Program Manager for Undergraduate Studies! And for the past (almost) seven years, I have been working with the amazing faculty, staff, and students in the College of Sciences.
How would you describe your role at UTSA in 10 words or less?
I support the college's departments and offices to help students succeed.
What is your proudest moment with the College of Sciences?
The most recent proudest moment I've had was being in the dunk tank at our Viva Science! Roadrunner Days event this past August. I think some of my colleagues were a bit incredulous about it, but I genuinely had a blast! It was fun to see the whole event unfold from the seat of that dunk tank. And we had over 730 students attend, so I think it all worked out fabulously!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I truly enjoy working with my fellow staff members and our engaged faculty! We all try to do the best we can to support COS students in and out of the classroom.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
My ideal Saturday looks like one of my kiddos crawling into bed for morning snuggles, eating homemade pancakes (with maple syrup from my family's farm) and eggs for breakfast, spending the day together as a family, and then ending Shabbat with dinner at my in-law's and a movie.
