Annie Herrera, Fiscal Manager, College of Sciences Office of the Dean

What did your journey to UTSA look like?
Growing up on a German-speaking Mennonite farming community in Belize, a place of higher education was not even in the picture. However, through a persistent yearning for learning new things, new doors were opened. By the time my sons reached college age, obtaining a higher education was on my list as well. So when my oldest was accepted to UTSA I found a job on campus with the hope of working on a degree myself, which I completed this August.

What does your role as Fiscal Manager entail?
As the Fiscal Manager I work under administrative direction to plan, develop, and implement a budget to assure conformance with expenditure plans and work with department fiscal team members to ensure compliance with State, System and Institutional policies and procedures regarding fiscal management.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the people I work with and find inspiration in the fact that on a college campus we are serving and shaping the future generations.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?
Outdoors!! Either working on the yard, in the garden, or going for a hike in a nearby park, with an occasional cookout in the back yard with my husband, two sons, two dogs and two cats.
