Dina Drozdov, Ph.D., Department of Physics and Astronomy
Dr. Drozdov says that the most fascinating thing about her research with exploding stars is how much we have left to learn about them. "A lot of our current understanding of our entire universe is based on exploding stars, but there's so many things within that field that we don't understand," she explains. She enjoys observing that same sense of wonder in her students as she teaches them about stars, galaxies and the universe in her introductory courses. "I really like opening people's eyes," she says. "There are a lot of misconceptions about astronomy."
Born in Moscow, Russia, Dr. Drozdov moved to the United States when she was three. After attending Ohio State for her undergrad, she earned her M.S. and Ph.D. at Clemson. Her initial interest in astronomy began when she participated in science competitions as a kid. She is now passionate about community outreach and enjoys sharing her experience with others. "As a female in STEM, it's kind of my duty to represent," she explains. "I love giving back to the community in any possible way."
