The Chemistry Faculty Award for Excellence in the Chemical Sciences is presented to students who in the opinion of the Awards Committee in the Department of Chemistry have provided exceptional academic performance with commendable research productivity and professional service and who are undertaking a career in the chemical sciences.

Nicole will enter the chemistry graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Linh will enter the Chemistry and Chemical Biology program at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Kostiantyn Marichev Accepts Faculty Position at Georgia State University

May 2020

Dr. Marichev will join the Department of Chemistry at GSU this Fall as an assistant professor. Kos is a valued contributor of our group's research and education efforts – first author on eight published papers and two submitted manuscripts, contributor to four others, mentor to nearly a dozen undergraduate students and visiting scientists, and lecturer to sophomore Organic Chemistry classes.

Coronavirus Strands Dr. Xinfang Xu and Family in San Antonio

January – April 2020

Arriving two weeks before the International Symposium, former research group member Dr. Xinfang Xu, Professor of Chemistry at Soochow University, attended the Carbene Symposium as a plenary lecturer but, because of the travel ban in and out of China in early February, he was stranded along with his family in San Antonio until early April. Students made presentations of their undergraduate research and participated in the general meeting in the special undergraduate competition in Organic Medicinal and Pharmaceutical research.

Dr. Yongming Deng joins the Department of Chemistry at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky as an Assistant Professor. Yongming joined our group in the Fall of 2014, just before we moved to UTSA, and has been a leading force in research and undergraduate education.
